My opinion is this is an excellent bargin for fly rod, reel, backing, weight forward floating line, one leader, line cleaning cloth, and a small box for some flys. The 4 weight rod casts quite smoothly. Very impressive.

Marmish Vertical Fishing System Ice Fishing Rod and Reel Review

(More customer reviews)I've had two Marmish rods, which I use for ice-fishing, for two years now. They are very useful. Because of their short length, I am able to sit as close as I want to the wall of a shanty--no having to sit back two feet because I'm using a normal ice-fishing rod. I am able to sit almost over a hole which greatly reduces neck and back fatigue and gives me a better view. The rods are lightweight and it doesn't tire you out to jig them. I have elastic loops aroud my Marmish rods that allow me to hang them around my neck so I can drop them any time I want.
All in all, they match or outperform any longer ice-fishing rod I've come across.

i think the weight on the butt could be a little heavier, to balance a reel loaded with #8 sinking tip, but that's about all. Saltwater proof, and a joy to fish with.

(More customer reviews)I bought 2 of these for my kids to use and they work wonderfully. You may want to re-string them with a better fishing line, but that is up to you.
I put 8-lb test Trilene Mono-filament line on there and it casts great. Have taken them out a dozen times and no issues with the setup at all. Just make sure when you get it that the reel is securely placed on the rod...one of mine was a little loose...otherwise, very good setup for the price!

(More customer reviews)A friend purchase this rod for me. i am very disappointed with it first thing it is being affected by salt water after the first fishing trip it start to sign of rusting although it was washed of with fresh water after the trip. on the second trip it broke that was the end of it. very very poor quality and the reel is also of poor design and quality. the only good thing is that it can fold up nice and easy to store.

It is exactly how it is described. It was just a little shy of 14 ft. 9 but still very happy. The end where you hold it is covered with a material that gives a good grip. The reel works and is filled with line, ready to fish. I have not tried yet but it feels great. Before ordering I exchanged emails with the owner, to be sure that he has the length as advertised. My husband took it apart and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't reel in. The fishing line was all over the place and my son was very disappointed that his fishing pole wouldn't work. My advice, don't waste your money! It's very cheaply made.

(More customer reviews)I've bought hundreds of times from Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've been dissatisfied enough with a product to write a review. This reel was terrible in every way. I could see that it wasn't a well made product when I pulled it out of the box, but other positive reviews online convinced me to give it a try. The anti-reverse lever was made out of cheap plastic and broke off the first time I took it out, before I even got a chance to use it. The drag adjustment knob slipped like it was stripped out when I tried to adjust the drag. I never could get it to work right and lost several trout because of it. The 7' rod was less bad. I normally like a trout rod to have a lot of flex at the tip, but this thing felt like casting with a wet noodle. The rod tip was just way too flexible, even for trout. Of course, it might have been fun if I'd actually been able to keep a fish on long enough with it to bring one in. I tried it for an hour and then swapped it out for my 5' Ugly Stick. Paired with a Pflueger Trion, I was able to cast at least as far as I could with the 7' rod, and I was able to land the 3 fish I hooked after I switched. Fortunately, Amazon is going to let me send it back, which I'm happily doing today. I've already replaced it with a Daiwa Spinmatic UL rod and Abu Garcia Cardinal C251 UL reel. A little bit more expensive, but a heck of a better setup.

(More customer reviews)i originaly ordered this rod, as an anchor pole for my king fish rig. i used an ugly stick at first but needed something a little stiffer. for $29 this pole can't be beat. its a great buy. i got the 12 ft med action to get some distance on my anchor. i should, or just might get the 16footer for surf casting. i live 10 miles from a bass pro s, and searched for a rod like this, but the price was too high. so i took the chance for $29.00, and okuma has a good reputation. i'm really happy with this. can't wait for warm weather and hit the piers..watch out kingfish, i'm comin for ya!!

Wild Water Fly Fishing Complete 5/6 Starter Package Review

(More customer reviews)I just got my combo today and I'm very happy with it. I needed to replace a rod that I broke and I didn't want to spend a lot. I chose Wild Water because of the price and the warranty. The shipping was free and super fast (UPS to Hawaii) which was great. Looks wise the rod is very basic, black wraps on dark grey, single stripping guide. Shiny metal (steel?) reel seat is a nice touch though. The reel is also very entry level but it's large arbor entry level which is nice. I took the setup out on a small stream for smallmouth and the thing was like butta. The casting was smooth and almost effortless. Full disclosure: I don't own any high end rods so I can't tell you "Casts better than my Winston (Loomis, Orvis, Sage, whatever)" but it sure casts better than my previous rod which was part of a Cabelas starter kit. The fly was going where I wanted it way more often than I'm used to. The slow action on this rod is said to be good for beginners, so I'll use this one to teach my sons to fly cast. I ordered a med/fast action for bigger water and windier days. I got both this combo and the 2nd rod for less than I was going to spend on just a starter rod/reel combo from a better known company. The 4 piece design is great for travel and the included case is solid. I know I've only had the stuff for a day, but it was a good day. I caught (and released) 6 bass including the 2 biggest I've ever got out of that particular stream. This outfit is a great place to start for a first timer, a great place to continue for kinda broke guys like me, and a can't-go-wrong backup for anyone else.
