A superb instructional manual for schooling jumpers and riders, featuring 30 step-by-step gridwork exercises.Any jumping problem can be vastly improved—if not solved—by the methodical use of gridwork. A "grid" is a series of obstacles used to develop a horse's gymnastic athleticism. In this book, the author introduces the basic concepts of gridwork, describing how it can help both the novice horse and rider gain confidence. Mailer then provides specific exercises for common jumping problems at every level, such as refusing or rushing fences and missing distances. With sections devoted to sharpening the advanced horse for competition, improving jump-off technique, and facing tricky cross-country obstacles, this book is infinitely useful for horses and riders of all abilities and in all jumping disciplines.
