(More customer reviews)To anyone who complained about how difficult it is to set up, Eagle Scout or not, I can only say that you're not doing it the right way. Or you're too weak to do it. Either way, if it's done right, it's no harder than tying boots snugly.
Hint: when you're ready to bow the 1st pole, set the ferruled end on the ground, vertically between your feet while you're standing up and making sure no dirt can fill it (I set it on a sandal instead of right on the dirt). Pull the fabric down systematically, until the ring passes the ferruled end. Grab the fabric and the pole about 2-3 inches from the end with one hand like you're choking it, making sure the fabric does not slide out again. Lift the pole off the ground so you can see what you're doing. With the other hand, slide the pin into the pole. It's that easy. Repeat the process for the 2nd and 3rd poles.
It took me less than 20 minutes from start to finish, all by myself. The key is to plant the ferruled end of the pole securely on the ground while you work the fabric with both of your free hands.
It's the best shade I've ever bought. The other shade that I own, a 10'x10' type, weighs 50 lbs and is quite large in a package, compared to this 11-lbs shade that fits in a small nylon sack. The 2008 model comes with heavy-duty poles which is an improvement to the smaller diameter poles of the earlier model. There is no way these poles will split, unlike the earlier version, as reported by some.

ABO Gear Instent Shelter Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the Abo Gear Instent as a beach shelter for our infant daughter. Its first use at the beach in cool spring weather went well. The Instent was fast to set up and take down. Our baby enjoyed exploring the tent and soon fell asleep. Not much room though for adults to sit comfortably and the ceiling height prevents use of chairs.
Our second experience with the Instent was very different. At the beach on a sunny day in June, the Instent got very hot inside despite a normal ocean breeze and the windows open. Baby was sweating and crying so we took her out. During this time, one of the corner poles kept collapsing and I had to push it back into its socket. None of the other shelters on the beach seemed to be having problems. On take down, one of the plastic poles (maybe the same one) broke from its socket and tore into the fabric of the tent, rendering our Instent useless.
I contacted Abo Gear, and despite a quick response and a promise of, "We'll take care of the problem", I have not received a replacement or a status in sixty days. I contacted Abo Gear again and they responded with questions about the weather on the day it broke. It seems Abo Gear is looking for a way out of honoring their warranty.
On a recent Instent-less trip to the beach, a friend purchased a Lil' Nursery tent for us. It is smaller, cheaper and better ventilated than the Instent and worked fine on the beach in the July sun, though it does require a few minutes to set up. I wish I had bought this first and saved eighty bucks on the Instent. Since Abo Gear customer service never came through for me, I don't know whether I had a lemon Instent or whether there are major quality problems with this product. Based on my experience with Abo Gear and the tent's performance, I give them both the lowest rating. If by chance I receive a replacement, I will update this review.

(More customer reviews)I was looking everywhere for a good sturdy volleyball system that wasn't going to cost me more than $100. I went to Sports Authority several times and most of the systems that I saw there were made of very cheap looking PVC pipe and didn't have half the features of this great set. So I went and bought it from Target, which is actually where you are buying this set from even if you order from here.
So I bought it early in the morning one day before going to the beach. It must have taken us about half an hour to set up. It isn't very hard to follow the instructions that it brings and once you attach the tensioners on the pole, you never have to do it again, and everything else just snaps together. The included sand discs were a life saver because we quickly realized the stakes would not hold solid in the sand.
Once we had this thing set up, we found some other people on the beach and played a few games. When we got tired and were heading for the water, another group of people just started playing on our court! We told them that as long as they took care of it, that it was fine. One kid landed on one of the poles and nearly knocked it over, but all he had to do was pull it straight which only took a whole two seconds. After they were done, we played another 5 games. All in all it made our beach trip very very enjoyable and I love this thing. I'm looking forward to many more beach days with it. (I live in miami).
My only recommendation is that you go to walmart or a hardware store and buy 180 feet of cheap yellow rope because the very thin white one that comes with the set for marking the court boundaries is hard to see. Once you have the rope, tie or crimp the ends together. When you set up your court, simply stretch the rope in a rectangle, and now you have your more visible court boundary. You might also want to bring a small shovel with you to the beach to bury the sand discs. No hammer required unless you are playing lawn volleyball.

First day was VERY windy. If we had a tail, I think we could have flown it as a kite. I consider it a success that the cabana didn't rip apart.
Our second adventure worked much better. Still windy, but not as bad as the first day. Filled the pockets with sand, (and buried them in sand as well) Worked great and it was nice to have a place to keep all the beach toys and get out of the sun and wind occasionally.

Lots of compliments and it would be easy to sell these at double the
price on the beach.
Not much more heavier than the 5' model it replaced. Get an anchor
to hold in sand. Don't bother with a smaller umbrella, bigger is
better and worth the money.

(More customer reviews)Overall it is an okay product.It is easy to open, unless there is too much wind. I bought this for the beach because I am tired of trying to open an umbrella that wont stay because of the wind.
I did try it out at my house on a windy day. It worked fine there, but at the beach were there are no obstacles to slow the wind down it was a disaster. You have to have two people open it when there is a good wind. The poles will collapse on themselves too if there is too much wind. There needs to be wind slots in the back panel. No matter which way I turned it it wanted to blow away. The spikes did not hold it.
The mesh sides need to have some solid material on the bottom because sand will come in from there.
I do plan on using this product at the park or in my yard for my kids. It does open and close easily, it even rolls back up to fit back into the bag. I do not regret buying this tent. I just wished it worked better at the beach, which I originaly bought it for.

Coleman SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent (Orange/Gray) Review

(More customer reviews)This is only the second tent I've ever owned. The first one was a real crappy sub $20 from Sports Authority. That $20 one worked fine for that one night I used it for but I vowed spend a little more next time and hope for much better quality. The 2-person $20 leaked a bit, was terribly cramped and was awfully humid inside. All of those problems went away with this Coleman. Here are just a few reasons why I'm very happy with my purchase:
First, the price was pretty reasonable. If you find another brand with a similar design for a little less, that's fine and all but I was happy to pay what I paid and get a Coleman - even someone that has never been camping before knows Coleman is pretty trusted when it comes to things like tents, coolers and anything you use outdoors.
Second, I thought most of the other reviews here were pretty favorable. I'm just a guy that wants to head to a campsite 2-3 times a year and spend a night or two with my girlfriend. There was another review here about how it fit a guy and his fiancée with a queen size air mattress very well. That review pretty much sold me and it was spot on. I also learned that a queen size air mattress is actually a little smaller than a regular size full size you'd have in your home. That's still fine for two people but just don't think you're going to fit a giant mattress in there. The "queen" Coleman air mattress I purchased fit very well with ample room to spare.
Third, I like the colors of this tent - definitely not a great reason to base your choice of shelter but I still like the way it looks.
Fourth, It poured rain as we slept the first night. It was a pretty bad thunderstorm and it came down hard. There were not any leaks I could find. It also probably helped that this was a brand new tent, I'm pretty sure all tents will spring leaks as they get older and require seam sealer.
Fifth, Ease of use - this thing goes up and comes down pretty easily. A child can figure this thing out and it fits in a bag that's pretty small and easy to manage.
So if you're like me and just need a nice little tent for the occasional camping trip, this is a great choice. You can see how it looks in my pics compared to a giant 8 person tent too.

I'm sure glad I went with the Spectrum 2000. It arrived in good shape and very quickly (4days). I was not given a choice on what color.I was concerned because I read another person got an orange one. To my suprise I got a blue and thats the color I wanted. The poles were thicker and telescopic to three hights, the othes didn't offer this feature. The pins were 10 in. most others were 8 inches. This made a difference in staking out the poles in soft soil. It went up in a very short time. Very easy to take down and put up. The carry bag is convient to transport to my son's home as well as the beach. I an quite pleased and feel I got more than I even ecpected.

(More customer reviews)This has been "the" outdoor net system for serious outdoor grass players for over twenty years, and I see nothing changing. The poles are the easiest to set up I've ever used, very sturdy, and set up a tight net.
The net itself on the system I received was defective. This is very rare for this company, and even more rare was the service I received when I called their toll free number: immediate satisfaction. They didn't even ask that I bother to send back the defective net, just take a digital photo and send it over the internet. Oh yea, they sent the net before I even got around to sending them the e-mail! This meant that my high school girls team could use it at the time I had planned. This service is greatly appreciated by our team, and I'm a customer for life.
This system has been updated since the days I played competitive outdoor ball, and the new tightening handles on the guylines are entirely effective, no-slip, very easy to use and strong. What more could one ask for?
Overall, if you're a serious outdoor player, you could not go wrong with this system. There are other systems that put up a great net, but none that are this easy to set up.Thomas Barefoot

The dome cover kept out rain and night dew but the tent did not get steamy or stuffy when full of sleeping campers. We found the screen on top to be an adavantage, because of privacy we don't and I don't
know of anyone that sleeps with the tent windows open at night. This did well in the rain no wet spots. Coleman has a floor that wraps up several inches to meet the tent fabric. Huge advantage! We have never had a water
problem with any Coleman tent made in this fashion.

Expect the Worst In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.
Three- and Four-Season Tents For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.
For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.
Domes and Tunnels Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.
Size Matters Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.
Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

This is nothing like the cheap volleyball/badmitten/horseshoe combo sets you can buy in a store and all the pieces fit in a tiny bag. This thing is solid and well made. This thing is built to last and stand up to some hard use.
The things I like about this set are:
* Comes WITH ball and ball pump.
* Comes WITH a large nylon bag to store the thing in when not in use.
* Has durable metal ground stakes that the the poles fit over, so you aren't making huge holes in the yard.
* The poles themselves are very sturdy thick aluminum, I'd say 2 inches in diameter if not more.
* Comes with guide ropes that are very sturdy yellow braided nylon.
* The net appears very well made, unlike some of the tangled thin messes you get in a cheaper set.
* The net has 3 adjustable heights 7 feet, 7' 4" and 8".
* There is also a feature with the net so you can keep track of score
* There is of course an instruction guide, which includes official rules to the game.
The ball itself is pretty nice it's got kind of a "cushy" feel to it. Much better than the uber hard ones that make red marks on your arms. In school when I played volleyball most of the balls were much better quality than the one included here, but really - the one they included is a fine alternative. Unless you are really taking your volleyball seriously, this ball will be fine. And if you do take your volleyball seriously, then you'd already HAVE a better model to use.
This set is going to be good for jr/sr. high school age kids, college students, or drunk relatives at family reunions. It seems so much sturdier than many sets on the market. I think if someone stumbles into the net it's not going to break anything, which is all you really can ask for when getting a volleyball set.

Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade Review

(More customer reviews)The shelter is multifunctional in that it can be set up like a tent, a lean-to, or a canopy with some extra poles(haven't tried this one yet). The problem is this is not a one person, albeit, sometimes not even a two-person operation. And on a beach with winds of as little as 15 mph it become an exercise in perseverance. Actually had to bring some rocks to anchor this down,(the wind kept pulling up the anchors up from the sand). Sand bags might help. But frankly anything less than perfect, windless weather makes setting it up a challenge,(undo-able in less than 10 minutes). The fabric is excellent and the UV factor really shields from the sun. Once set up, functions great, used it as a lean-to in Acadia National Park on their beach front. That's why I only gave it a 3 star. Would have loved to have given it a 5 star, but its impractical for a family of 4 (2 adults-2 sm. children) or a single individual or even a couple without hassling. Probably for a group of 3-4 adults it might go smoother and not in high wind situations. Probably will be returning mine and looking for other alternative shelters.
