ATEC Over-Sized Multi-Sport Net Review

This was a late birthday gift decision and was concerned whether it would arrive on time. The gift did arrive when the vendor said it would...and it was standard shipping. I would purchase again from this company. As for the product we are very happy with it. It is big enough for those occasional errant throws or hits. I can not comment on it durability because we have only had it a short time. However the product does seem to be made well. We do not leave it up all the time so we will see how it does being assembled and taken down each week. How easy it is to put the thing together? It can be challenging for one person. Two is ideal but even with one it only takes 15 minutes to setup.

Wilson Golf Extreme Challenge Cage Net Review

I got this net and set it up in February and been using it fairly regularly. I was hitting some balls tonight and noticed some tears in the netting much to my disappointment!
Shouldn't a $100.00 golf net last longer than 3-4 months?
Completely unacceptable.

Franklin Sports Soft-Toss Target Net, 80 Inch X 120 Inch Review

Franklin Sports Soft-Toss Target Net, 80 Inch X 120 Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My daughter is big into softball with pitching clinics and travel teams, etc. I bought this for use as a target net and a back-drop for when I'm catching for her (saves me running after the balls I miss). The target net is constructed much like a three-sided camping tent with collapsable poles and stakes for securing the corners. The multi-segmented, hollow pole sections are made from a fiber-glass-like material and have a thin elastic cord running through them from end to end. One end of each section has a 3" metal pipe section that is bonded on to keep it in place. This short pipe provides a female end to which the next pole section can be inserted, with the elastic cord holding all the sections together. When assembled, the 12' poles are inserted into tubes sewn into the seams of the tent. Each must be inserted to make a cross, then each must be gently bent until the ends of the poles can be inserted into cups at the corners. These cups have loops attached through which the ground stakes hold down the assembly.
Negative reviews are not generally appreciated on Amazon, but I feel obligated as a frequent internet buyer to offer up one today.
Seemed like a good idea when I put it together for the first time, although it was a bit cumbersome with the long poles being fed through fabric tubes of the same length. During one of our practices, we heard a crack and suddenly one of the two poles broke. After disassembly and inspection, one of the fiber poles had broken right at the steel pipe section where the stress is highest. Inspecting further, I realized that the middle sections of the poles had plastic sleeves on them, presumably for adding strength where the bend radius is highest. By cleaning out the broken end from the steel pipe and shaving back the plastic sleeve, I was able to reproduce a male end to connect back into the pipe. Cutting to the end, this breaking was quite frequent. The net did make it through half a season before 7 repairs had been done, and finally two of the pipe sections split along their entire length. The poles are simply under-sized or the wrong material for this application. Given low reliability and lack of assembly/disassembly ease, I gave two stars. Consider something better constructed and more portable for serious practice.

Golf Ball HogTM Golf Ball Retriever Review

Golf Ball HogTM Golf Ball Retriever
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Golf Ball Hog works very well once you get the hang of it. Mine paid for itself within a couple of weeks. The construction is pretty solid, and it's easy to extend and contract the telescoping pole.
It works best for getting balls out of ponds, but not quite as well with streams. The rocks at the bottom of the streams can make it difficult to rake the balls up with the golf ball hog. I can still get them, it just takes me a couple of tries. I think the ad says it works in finding balls in deep rough. That may be true, but I haven't gotten that to work yet. When the head meets significant resistance, it spins a little, and can't pick up balls until it's twisted back again.
Ponds are the biggest area you'll benefit from the Golf Ball Hog, and using it just for ponds is good enough. I use mine as I'm playing, so I usually spend just 5-10 minutes at a time, and get 2-3 dozen balls a session. I now have more balls than I can use.
3 factors that will affect your ability to get balls out of ponds are the amount of plant life in the pond, the likelihood that people will hit balls into a particular place in the pond, and the underwater terrain of the pond.
I haven't had any luck in getting balls out of ponds with lots of plant life (looks like seaweed, I'm not sure what it's called) That stuff clogs up the Golf Ball Hog and prevents it from picking up any balls. Worse, you then have to untangle it by hand, and it's kind of nasty.
You'll have the most luck in getting balls out of ponds in spots where people just miss the green. They tend to leave a lot of balls in places like this, and because they were going for the green, they don't expect to hit the water, and the balls tend to be of higher quality (lots of Titleist ProV1 and ProV1x). These are the spots where you can rake 5 balls out at a time with the Golf Ball Hog.
How deep the pond is, and how steeply the pond slopes under the water also affects your ability to get balls. The balls tend to roll downhill under water and settle on the bottom. I've needed all of the 18' telescoping pole to get balls out. There are some ponds where the bottom of the pond is too far from the edge to be able to reach the balls that have settled to the bottom.
Balls coming out of ponds don't look like they do in the Golf Ball Hog promotional video. Unless they were just hit, they are not white. They are muddy, very nasty and they smell. I take a separate plastic bag to keep my balls in. When I get home I throw them in the washing machine with a pair of blue jeans to clean them. Even still, many balls require hand cleaning to get fully clean. Depending on their age, some balls are as good as new, but others are shag balls at best. Usually you can tell the bad ones by their color, sometimes you can't tell until you hit them and find they just don't seem to go as far.
Overall, the Golf Ball Hog is really good, and I do recommend it. I did a lot of research into ball retrievers, settled on this one, and I've been very glad I did.

Wilson Golf Collapsible Practice Net Review

Wilson Golf Collapsible Practice Net
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Positive:
-Size, good surface area
-Chipping net
Negatives:
-Poor instructions
-Very hard to set up by yourself. Really takes 2 people, because nothing fits tight, so as you try to get one side in, the other side pops out.
-Nothing locks in. Plastic caps to hold rear poles don't fit tightly. The 'male' sticks that go into the 'female' section of the rear poles are not tight, so a wind from the rear pushes it over.
I have had to make some modifications to this item to make it usable. I taped some eyelets to the bottom of the rear poles and attached to ring with caribiners. I've had to tape the caps onto the top of the rear poles and add some tape to the ends of the front pole to make it snug.

DiscDiver Disc Golf Golden Retriever Review

DiscDiver Disc Golf Golden Retriever
Average Reviews:

First the product: If you've gone to their website and seen the video you'll know what I'm talking about. Loosing a $20 disc sucks, and if you have this little gadget there is a good chance of recovery. I've used it in ponds where you can't see the bottom, and came out with discs! I occasionally cast it in there just to see what I can grab. It snags a disc, then uses the disc shape to raise it out of the water, and away from snags on the bottom... Sharp idea, nice product, I wish the inventor success.
About the Seller: I bought disc diver about 6 weeks ago, had a problem with shipping and it didn't arrive. I mentioned to the seller I didn't get the product... what does he do... sends me a brand new one in it's place (it had a paint chip or so he says LOL... it looked perfect to me). So I get the disc diver, and USPS finally finds the first one that they mistakenly sent somewhere else. I notified the seller, TOLD him I wanted to PAY. He refused, and asked merely to give it to another person who may need it at the course. I don't want to give you the wrong impression, he's not in the business of giving away disc divers, but he is in the business of honesty, he deserves high praise for his customer service. Outstanding seller! I WILL do business with him again.

Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder (clam) Review

Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 Laser Rangefinder (clam)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Bushnell Yardage Pro Sport 450 seems to be well made and not too heavy, nor too light. For my own purposes, it will work just fine. I will be using it to measure straight line distances across a series of "sinkholes" in Citrus County, FL. For the purposes of the study, I need to known the widths of these geologic features. It is unreasonable to drag a long tape across one of these often deep depressions ... the tape "sag" would be too great ... and it would also require me to trample a lot of native vegetation, of which many plants are quite rare or endangered. What will be done is to sight from the edge of the sinkhole to a tree on the other side. Accuracy in not that important ... so, distance with an accuracy of 1-2 yards is just fine. I will do a calibration before going out: tamping off a number of posts, poles trees, etc. on my street where I have a clear view ... and noting how much the device gives a reading that varies from the true taped distance. This rangefinder is probably just fine for hunters ... however, golfers would probably do best to just play golf and learn how to estimate distances ... there is no way that most folks could hold any rangefinder steady enough on a flag/pin to get the acurracy they need. Besides, it is not sporting ... unless you just want to learn how to use your various clubs and assess the force of your swing that you might need. PS ... I paid $115 for mine, including shipping .. so, look around. it was sold by a vendor associated with Amazon ... I love Amazon!

Hole in One Review

Hole in One

It's easy to install and way more fun than shipping towards a bucket in the yard. The cup seems extremely sturdy. In fact, I hammered the cup into the lawn upside down a couple times to pull the sod and dirt plug out. The flag fabric itself is kind or weird to install but overall it works well. It should come with a clip-on lid to put over the hole when not in use so it doesn't fill up with grass nor get sucked up by the lawnmower.

ProActive Tite Grip Antiperspirant Hand Lotion Review

ProActive Tite Grip Antiperspirant Hand Lotion

Ironically, I feel exactly the opposite about Tite Grip. Pole moves make me nervous so my hands get sweaty and this helps me to stick better than anything else I have tried. If you have sweaty hands, Tite Grip is better than Mighty Grip. I don't have a problem with the smell at all. At first it smells like mint, but it oxidizes some on your hands and will have a slight metallic smell. It's not enough to bother me.
