Quantum Teton Trout Spinning Combo Teton Reel with 6'6-Inch Light 2 Piece Rod Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)Took the combo up to the lake to do some spring trout fishing last week. I loaded the spool with 6lb Trilene. The casting ability was surprisingly good, and very smooth. This whole setup really falls more into the ultra-light category, but rod sensitivity and reel performance were great for a light setup. Really a perfect all around trout fishing setup.

Quantum Teton Trout Spinning Combo Teton Reel with 7'0-Inch Light 2 Piece Rod Review

(More customer reviews)I've bought hundreds of times from Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've been dissatisfied enough with a product to write a review. This reel was terrible in every way. I could see that it wasn't a well made product when I pulled it out of the box, but other positive reviews online convinced me to give it a try. The anti-reverse lever was made out of cheap plastic and broke off the first time I took it out, before I even got a chance to use it. The drag adjustment knob slipped like it was stripped out when I tried to adjust the drag. I never could get it to work right and lost several trout because of it. The 7' rod was less bad. I normally like a trout rod to have a lot of flex at the tip, but this thing felt like casting with a wet noodle. The rod tip was just way too flexible, even for trout. Of course, it might have been fun if I'd actually been able to keep a fish on long enough with it to bring one in. I tried it for an hour and then swapped it out for my 5' Ugly Stick. Paired with a Pflueger Trion, I was able to cast at least as far as I could with the 7' rod, and I was able to land the 3 fish I hooked after I switched. Fortunately, Amazon is going to let me send it back, which I'm happily doing today. I've already replaced it with a Daiwa Spinmatic UL rod and Abu Garcia Cardinal C251 UL reel. A little bit more expensive, but a heck of a better setup.

Shakespeare Catch More Fish Surf/Pier Spin Combo (CMFSURFPIER CMF CMBO 50RL 7FT M 10) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)The first one delivered, the tip of the pole was snapped! It looked like it had been packed by a 5 year old. If it weren't for customer support, who were very kind and actually listened to me. Not only did she place a new order for me, but she also made sure that it was packed properly, not to mention emailed me the billing & shipping forms. I received the replacement within 2 days. Shakespeare equipment is really good. I still have my Shakespeare Pro-Am Series Combo from 1987 and it's STILL the rod and reel I grab. I have caught all kinds of fish from all types of places. From a top of a mountain in N.C. to a small pond in D.E., to a bridge in Tierra Verde in F.L. GREAT QUALITY AT A REASONABLE PRICE!!!

Shakespeare Two-Piece Light Action Ugly Rd 1 Bearing Combo Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I've had Ugly Stiks and Shakespeare reels for salt water for many years and thought I'd try some freshwater trout fishing. I needed something small and inexpensive and this combo fit the bill. Sure the reel has only one bearing but it's still smooth and should last quite a few years when properly maintained. The action on the Ugly Stik is light, the construction is solid and the two pieces fit snugly together. The reel is solid, cranks smoothly and the bail returns acceptably. I prefer the rear drag adjustment and this one seems to work very well. The black color on both the rod and reel are good for stealth in clear streams (no shiny parts) and looks good too. It casts smoothly and hits the mark every time (mainly because I'm just that good). Can you buy something much better? Sure. In my research I can across an ultralight reel that cost $1300. I say buy this Shakespeare Combo and then take the $1260 and go on a nice vacation to the mountains. I'll pass this rig on to my son and upgrade some day but as for now this will do just fine.
Highly recommended.

Shakespeare Medium Action Travel Mate Telescopic Kit Combo (6-Feet 6-Inch) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I recently sailed a 40 ft catamaran around the Florida Keys and wanted to do some occasional fishing.
We took the dinghy out to the #18 red marker just south of the Boca Grande channel, tied off, chummed with some shrimp and began fishing. We had stripped off the flimsy looking mono that came with the reels and replaced with 8.b test Spider mono. We used a swivel to some 30lb test leader and no weight. We baited with whole shrimp hooked from the tail up through the body.
Within 10 minutes we caught and landed 3 yellowtail jacks that were easily 8 to 10 lbs each. The fight was excellent with the fish peeling off drag from time to time. The rod was bent almost double as we turned the fish and wound down. Pretty good stuff for a telescopic device. The drag worked perfectly and was smooth. It was a good 5 minute fight as we gained back line only to lose it again with with furious runs by the jack. .....very fun..... With the last fish a 7 ft. shark actually chased the hooked fish up to the inflatable dinghy and that's when we felt it was time to go.....
This maybe isn't a rod to win a bass tourny with..... but for something to throw into your suitcase and take on vacation..... it's pretty good. Definitely switch out the line with your own and you are good to go.
