(More customer reviews)I bought this Reel and Rod Combo to take on a family vacation, in order to teach my 8 year-old how to fish (if we ended up anywhere near the water). I didn't have any fishing gear, and only dim (but great)memories of my dad teaching me when I was a kid.
Well, this kit has everything you need. Rod, reel, line, weights, floats, lures and hooks. I know it's not for the really-serious fishers out there, but this worked fantastic for us! My son even caught a fish!
I'd definitely recommend this to all my friends!

(More customer reviews)The line was fused inside the reel, but even after replacing the line it would not cast. Worst excuse for a reel I've ever seen, but the kids liked the tackle and telescopic pole, so I put a [...] dollar Zebco 202 on it and it works fine.

(More customer reviews)I was at Coney Island wanting to fish and begging my dad for a rod. Eventually he bought me this for my birthday. I was a complete nnovice but realized that the rod handle kept on falling out. Eventually The handle fell into the water because there was no bback to the handle holding it in. I bought a cheaper smaller reel and have used it with success catchinng Largemouth bass and, when I go for saltwater spot and fluke. If the reel works well you should buy this combo.

(More customer reviews)I bought this mainly for the rod. I have tried many telescopic rods, and most are far from perfect, including this one, but, this is the best one I have found so far. What I liked most about this one is the small size, it is very easy to put in a small pack or fishing purse. It is fairly sturdy for it's size, I have reeled in a few decent size trout with it. I don't think I would use it for anything larger that 12-14" trout. The only problems I had with the rod, was some of the eyes weren't glued too well, and would come loose. I just glued them back and all is good now. Overall, a good combo for the price.

If it weren't for customer support, who were very kind and actually listened to me. Not only did she place a new order for me, but she also made sure that it was packed properly, not to mention emailed me the billing & shipping forms. I received the replacement within 2 days. Shakespeare equipment is really good. I still have my Shakespeare Pro-Am Series Combo from 1987 and it's STILL the rod and reel I grab. I have caught all kinds of fish from all types of places. From a top of a mountain in N.C. to a small pond in D.E., to a bridge in Tierra Verde in F.L. GREAT QUALITY AT A REASONABLE PRICE!!!
