(More customer reviews)Last January I started an exercise/diet program to improve my cardio vascular fitness, focusing on the South Beach diet and a mixed exercise program.
The South Beach part has gone well -- I've lost 40 pounds in the 20 week period -- and exercise was a major component. In the third week of January, for example, I did four hours of cardiovascular exercise; this week I did 22.5 hours of cardiovascular exercise.
Walking, dog walking, hiking and an elliptical trainer all contribute to the successes. The Exerstrider is a very nice addition to the mix. It works almost every major muscle in your body with very little apparent stress. And, studies indicate it increases caloric expenditure by 75% without increasing speed or tempo -- important to avoid injury.
The Exerstriding takes a bit of learning -- it is quite different from Nordic walking -- and watching a video helped me get the hang of the technique within a half hour. Tom Rutlin, the inventor, has written a very good manual as well.
Several people in our neighborhood have asked me about the poles and a couple have taken them up. They add an interesting option to your cardiovascular armoury, and the telescoping version can be easily packed for trips.
