Although these poles are marketed to children, my 66-year-old husband and I find them perfect for exploring urban and rural sites and sights on foot.
They are adjustable for height, lightweight, amazingly low-cost, and collapse so they can be carried in a backpack -- although they stick out a few inches. We purchased rubber end caps to fit over the poles' carbide tips to reduce the clacking noise as you plant the poles, and to minimize damage to interior floor surfaces.
This fall we returned to the ruins of Pompeii where the poles were invaluable in helping us traverse uneven terrain, navigate over rough cobblestone streets and maneuver up and down steep stairs. An added bonus: when our guide shared everything he knew about everything, we just rested on our poles and listened attentively. They are excellent for browsing in museums as well.
Highly recommended for individuals who would like a little extra stability but refuse to use a cane.
