Experimental Researches in Electricity (Classic Reprint) Review

Experimental Researches in Electricity (Classic Reprint)

This is NOT Faraday's complete works, despite the implications of its title. A reprint of a 1914 publication, this is the Faraday of the chemical equivalent and the Law of Electrolysis, not the Law of Electromagnetic Induction. The price is right for the Master's own words on investigations into the equivalence of all different sorts of electricity, and his work on electrolysis and voltaic cells. In this work we get to see the reasoning and experiments of this most inquisitive man; we get to see how his discoveries were made, and how Nature slowly yielded her secrets to his simple, persistent inquiries. Here he gives us "cation" and "anion" and also destroys Volta's view of the voltaic cell as an inexhaustible power source. This work shows why chemists rank Faraday as the greatest experimental chemist of the 19th century.
Perhaps "Faraday's Experimental Researches in Electricity: Guide to a First Reading", by Howard J. Fisher, would be more like what a physicist would want. I have not read it myself, but I have heard from a reliable source that this is what physicists would care for. Fisher's work is published by Green Lion Press, which has published a number of other historically important scientific works.
In particular, Green Lion Publishes, in three volumes, the unabridged version of "Faraday's Experimental Researches in Electricity." This is what the real history maven would want. (...)

WHEN from an Alpine height the eye of the climber ranges over the mountains, he finds that for the most part they resolve themselves into distinct groups, each consisting of a dominant mass surrounded by peaks of lesser elevation. The power which lifted the mightier eminences, in nearly all cases lifted others to an almost equal height. And so it is with the discoveries of Faraday. As a general rule, the dominant result does not stand alone, but forms the culmi- nating point of a vast and varied mass of inquiry. In this way, round about his great discovery of magneto-electric induction, other weighty labours group themselves. His investigations on the extra current; on the polar and other condition of diamagnetic bodies; on lines of magnetic force, their definite character and distribution; on the employment of the induced magneto-electric current as a measure and test of magnetic action; on the revulsive phenomena of the magnetic field, are all, notwithstanding the diversity of title, researches in the domain of magneto-electric induction.Table of Contents I. i. Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics: Design and Applications Review

Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics: Design and Applications

When I bought this book, I was very excited but when I recieved it I changed my mind after looking at the contents and then returned it immediately. This book is full of basic and simple drawings of some actuators and sensors and it has few equations to describe them. This book talks a lot about sensors and actuators and I do not think that it talks about all of them. I do not think this book is good as a textbook. I have a mechatronics background and I do not think this book is useful for a college person but you can use it as a reference nothing more.

From large-scale industrial systems to components in consumer applications, mechatronics has woven itself into the very fabric of modern technology. Among the most important elements of mechatronic systems are electromagnetic sensors and electromechanical actuators. Cultivated over years of industrial and research experience, Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics: Design and Applications builds a practical understanding of the features and functions of various electromagnetic and electromechanical devices necessary to meet specific industrial requirements. This work focuses on various components that receive less attention in the available literature, such as magnetic sensors, linear and latching solenoid actuators, stepper motors, rotary actuators, and other special magnetic devices including magnetic valves and heart pumps. Each chapter follows a consistent format, working from theory to design, applications, and numerical problems and solutions. Although the crux of the coverage is design and application, the author also discusses optimization and testing, introduces magnetic materials, and shares his enlightened perspective on the social and business aspects of developing world-class technologies. Examples from mainly the automotive industry illustrate the wide variety of mechatronic devices presented.Providing a complete picture from conception to completion, Sensors and Actuators in Mechatronics: Design and Applications places critical tools in the hands of any researcher or engineer seeking to develop innovative mechatronic systems.

I have read this book, not a bad book, there are couple of good chapters, the ones for thermenal stability, magnetic circuits and applications.but I do recommend "Introduction to magnetism and magnetic material" as starter book because this book deals with the theory behind magnets applications. So once you read this book, your able to understand campbell's one.

Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System Review

Magnetism and Its Effects on the Living System

In my opinion this is one of the most important books ever written. It goes into detail about how north and south pole magnetic energies affect all life forms on our planet.
Using the north or south pole of a magnet, you can alter the genetics of plants, animals and humans in beneficial ways. Mice were placed in a cage so they would be exposed to the north pole of a 2500 gauss magnet for 8 hours. Next, they were placed in a cage with female mice and intercourse took place. The offspring of these mice were smaller than normal and lived about 50% longer than the average for that species. The same type of experiment was repeated with many different species. The results were always the same. Why can't this be done with people? All indications are that it can! It sure sounds unbelievable, but anyone can reproduce these experiments. They're in this book.
Many ailments can be eliminated or greatly improved provided that the correct pole is used, the gauss (magnetic strength) is high enough and the magnet is used for the correct amount of time. Don't take what the skeptics say as fact. If you ignore the positive feedback from the millions of people who've used magnet therapy, your ignoring one of the best self-help methods of maintaining optimal health that has been discovered in the last few centuries. Compared to the cost of buying drugs, or even herbs and vitamins, magnets are by far the cheapest. Once you buy a magnet, it can be used year after year at no cost.
The use of south pole magnetic energy can have dangerous and undesired effects. The dangers come from not only using the south pole of a biomagnet, but from other sources in our environment. This is a serious threat to our health that all people should know about. I have taken a look at a number of other books on magnets and nothing compares to the books of Albert Roy Davis and Walter C. Rawls, Jr.

This book is the result of years of investigations into the laws of magnetism and is the first book ever written explaining how magnetism affects your life and the life of all living systems around you. Biomagnetics is an all-natural science based on the nature of life itself. The scientific community can no longer overlook the fact that when properly applied, a magnet's energies can be used to program improved forms of intelligence and offfer additional years to the normal life span of the living system. Special information on sex, aging, cancers, tumors, and more. Findings presented in this book are reproducible and factual. Illustrated.

North pole, south pole is a nice little story about how scientists across the furthest edges of history have wondered about the earth and its properties. Turner explains in "easy" language the theories of various times, but also dives into the personal situation of all people involved. It is probably a bit more fun to read if you know something about electromagnetism, but this is in no way compulsory.
Do note that this is a long story on a quite specific subject - it is not a 3 minute introduction into the earth's magnetic field. I'd say it makes for a great work to read in the holidays.

Why do compass needles point north-but not quite north? What guides the migration of birds, whales, and fish across the world’s oceans? How is Earth able to sustain life under an onslaught of solar wind and cosmic radiation? For centuries, the world’s great scientists have grappled with these questions, all rooted in the same phenomenon-Earth’s magnetism.

Over 2,000 years after the invention of the compass, Einstein called the source of Earth’s magnetic field one of greatest unsolved mysteries of physics. Here, for the first time, is the complete history of the quest to understand Earth’s magnetism-from the ancient Greeks’ fascination with lodestone, to the geological discovery that the North Pole has not always been in the North-and to the astonishing modern conclusions that finally revealed the true source.

Richly illustrated and skillfully told, North Pole, South Pole unfolds the human story behind the science: that of the inquisitive, persevering, and often dissenting thinkers who unlocked the secrets at our planet’s core.
