(More customer reviews)This book will make a good addition to any home sewer's library. It's written with a clearly British flavor (flavour?. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. How to's for most of the more common types of treatments are addressed. The authors describe hardware options and illustrate several unexpected and very clever ways to dress your windows. The artwork and photography are well done with some useful decorating suggestions demonstrated. It's not limited to only fabric. Several types of non-fabric treatments are included with some easy to duplicate painting techniques. This book would make a great gift for a new bride or a young person moving into there own place. I'm glad I added it to my collection.

(More customer reviews)This book is an invaluable source for fresh window dressing ideas, as well as old favorites, that can be easily constructed using the clear, detailed instructions. The drawings and photos really clear up any confusion, too. I loved the "materials list" because it usually reminded me of some item I would have forgotten at the fabric store! Even though I have sewn many window treatments, the "Tips" always solved some problem before it messed up my project! I highly recommend this book for both the novice and the professional who is looking for some fresh ideas.

It doesn't matter if you are a beginner or an expert at sewing, this book has step by step pictures so you can see exactly where you need to be in your project. I made a 12 feet long soft cornice that came out absolutely beautiful (with welting that I made and all!) and up until then, my sewing experience was in Jr. High sewing class.
All the projects have complete step by step instructions and photos. There are lots of great ideas for just about any type of treatment you could want. You'll be re-doing all of your windows!
This book is an absolute MUST for anyone interested in saving a lot of money and making their own window treatments. I have yet to find any other book that even compares to this one.

It probably is not ideal for those with only basic sewing skills, as the projects describe proportions rather than measurements (so that they can be adapted to any home), but I have had good results. As a book to inspire, it is wonderful. Paine has created beautiful interiors and has many creative ideas for transforming spaces with fabric.

(More customer reviews)While the designs and photos are beautiful, this is not the book for those, like me, who are new to the home decor stage and simply want to "do it themselves" after growing to despise the current window treatments around the house. The instructions assumed a great deal of prior knowledge, particularly in sewing techniques and terms. I found this book frustrating and unusable - but then again - I can sew a straight line and that's about it. If you are looking for simple - look elsewhere.

Step by step directions with pictures on such topics as installing hardware, including hanging a mounting board, to the basics of sewing. Great ideas for rod pocket curtains and custom shades. I used it to create two different window treatments, scarf swag and shoji-style screen. Each project tells you how to measure and materials required. Due to the great instructions, both treatments turned out very professional!!
