Up to this time,there are no 5 stars books in Linear Systems. However, this book is one of the best 4 stars books available for the subject. Through the book, the author sometimes assumes that you know or understand some topic, formula,...etc. without mentioning it. However,you can do it, but it may take you some time to figure out what it is. If you are good enough in linear algebra you will have no problems to handle the book up to the last page. Chapter 2 & 3 are the most important chapters in the book because they prepare you for the rest of the book. MATLAB is being used in a nice and helpful way to visualize some concepts and applications of the linear control theory. I recommend this book as a textbook for an introductory linear systems course and also for self teaching purposes.

This text is an extensive revision of the author's highly successful text, Linear Systems Theory and Design. In the third edition, the author is revising his formerly more theoretical approach to the topic of linear systems, choosing instead a more general approach that will appeal to a wider audience. A key feature of the revision is the incorporation of MATLAB throughout the text, with an emphasis on the ideas behind the computation and the interpretation of the results. All theorems or results are developed in a logical way so that the reader gains an intuitive understanding of the theorems, contrasting existing texts in which the theorems are simply listed without explanation. The revised text will also begin with the time-invariant case and extend through the subject of time-variant case, although this section may be omitted upon the instructor's discretion. The result is a user-friendly approach to linear systems, striking a balance between theory and applications.This new edition is geared for classroom use and engineering applications; therefore many topics in the original edition have been deleted, including strict system equivalence, deterministic identification, computational issues, some multivariable canonical forms, and decoupling by state feedback. It is intended for use in senior/first-year graduate courses on linear systems and multivariable system design in electrical, mechanical, chemical, and aeronautical engineering departments. The mathematical background assumed is a working knowledge of linear algebra and the Laplace transform and an elementary knowledge of differential equations. Because linear system theory is such a vast field, in the text, discussion has been limited to the conventional approaches of state space equations and the polynomial fractional method of transfer matrices. The text is appropriate for undergraduate students of linear systems and multivariable system design.

This is a not too bad but not too good discussion of all the usual DSP topics. The author chooses to do some very strange things, for example there is no explicit use of normalized frequency, but when discussing filter design it is used without much mention which could be very confusing. Good points for the book are some interesting MATLAB routines, and fairly comprehensive coverage at a junior/senior level. I'd suggest McClellan's DSP First, Steiglitz's Digital Signal Processing Primer, and Intro. to Signal Processing by Orfanidis over this for someone who really wants to understand things. If you already do understand the material and are looking for a supplemental reference, Mitra or O&S seem like better choices to me.

MATLAB is an integral part of the text.

I couldn't disagree with the previous reviewer more strongly. This book is awful: a poorly-organized mishmash of topics generally capitulated via equation with little depth and no explanation offered.
The index is a joke: on one recent occasion I was disappointed to find that there is not a single heading under the word "thermal". Surely a book on PM motors would have at least one passage talking about some thermal property that would merit inclusion?
Overall, I have become accustomed to being disappointed when looking to this book for help. Anyone interested would be better advised to get Hanselman's excellent Brushless Permanent Magnet Motor Design instead.

This book comprehensively covers all aspects of building a barn, shed or outbuilding yourself; it would also help someone who was planning on having one built for them. It covers everything from top to bottom and inside and out: siting, foundation, framing, roofing, weatherproofing, finishing, electrical and plumbing. It is easy to read and the illustrations are instructive, not merely decoration. Since many of the techniques are used in homebuilding, the book would be of interest to home owners as well.

If you're planning on building any of the hard parts of a house like footings, foundation, floors, walls, ceilings, roofs, stairs, masonry or shingles, you will want this book so you can figure out how to make them plumb, square, level, and evenly distributed. (I think that covers most of the carpentry sections)
He shows a few options for arriving at each layout, typically mathematically, from charts, and from pictures, so if you have trouble with one of them you can try another.
Octagons aren't very popular in my neighborhood, but if those (or other polygons) appear in yours, you'll find he has good information on them too.
I'd recommend a read through the book for suggestions when you first get it, (I did that in a long evening) and if you're a really good student you can follow along with all the examples. (I wasn't). But keep it by your side and read the chapter you need as you build. It will pay for itself in saved time and straigher work on the first job.
