Spalding 316 U-Turn Lift System Bracket Review

This is a heavy duty mount. There are more expensive mounts. Save your money. This one is all you will need. It is easy to adjust. Be sure to have your thinking cap on and some help when you start. I would mount the backboard to the mounting bracket first ,and elevate the whole thing if you have a way to raise it. (I used the wall mount)

Spalding 79354 Backboard/Rim Combo with 48-Inch PolyCarbonate Backboard Review

Spalding 79354 Backboard/Rim Combo with 48-Inch PolyCarbonate Backboard

I had high expectations for this backboard considering it was the one recommended by Spaulding since they did not have anything in stock for me to purchase direct. Amazon did a great job in getting it to us propmtly, and for free. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew this wouldn't last too long. It was fairly simple to replace the old broken backboard with this new one, a few bolts here and there. The problem is how cheap the "polycarbonate" backboard is. Topping in at a measly 1/8" thick board, I felt as if it should have said "Buyer Beware" on it. It has no reaction when a ball is shot against it rather all you hear is a resounding "THUD" and the ball falls straight down. The frame is cheaply made and has severe wobble to it when a shot is made. Even with 200 lbs of water in the base and the goal squatting at 8 foot, it has way too much movement. I suppose it will be fine for my 8 and 5 year old but I'm sure glad I didn't have a 3 on 3 tourney scheduled with the guys after receiving this.

Play like the pros in your own backyard with this Spalding NBA poly-carbonate backboard/rim combo (model 79354), which is designed to fit on both round and square poles. Measuring 48 inches wide, this clear board has look of a pro-style backboard--complete with NBA logo in the corner--and offers a structural steel frame and backboard pad for added protection against injuries. It's matched with a 5/8-inch solid steel Slam Jam breakaway rim with ultra-smooth spring action and an all-weather net. Mounting hardware not included. It's backed by a 5-year limited warranty.
Amazon.com Basketball System Buying Guide With the high-quality construction of many portable basketball systems, turning your driveway into a basketball court can be as simple as hooking up your garden hose. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.
In-Ground Systems In-ground systems are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. In-ground systems often require that you hire a professional to complete the task, but when the cement dries you'll have a hoop that can take punishing dunks with ease.
Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty break-away rims. You'll also want to research the adjustable mechanisms on the systems, as there are several types to choose from. Some feature a counter-balance spring that lets you perform easy, one-hand adjustments while others may feature a sturdy, pneumatic system.
Wall-Mount Systems Wall-mount systems can be mounted to the side of a house, a tall retaining wall, or a garage. Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, since you won't take any space up with the base or pole. Not all systems include the necessary hardware, so make certain you add a mounting kit to your list.
Portable Systems Portable systems require minimal installation and offer ultimate convenience. These systems generally feature a base that can be filled with sand or water to stabilize them and include wheels for portability. Although they are not as sturdy as in-ground or wall-mounted hoops, portables are simple to set up and can often be folded for convenient storage.
Backboard Considerations Regardless of which system you choose, you'll want to brush up on Backboards 101. Most residential systems feature backboards made of acrylic, fiberglass, graphite, or various other composite materials. While clear acrylic gives the professional look and feel of glass, it is not as rigid as fiberglass or graphite. Some systems may offer steel or aluminum backboards, which are virtually vandal resistant, but don't offer the true rebounding action.
The regulation size of an NBA backboard is 72 inches wide and 42 inches high. Most portable hoops are 42 or 44 inches wide and 36 inches tall. In-ground systems tend to be a bit larger, with 54-inch and 60-inch widths being the most popular. While rectangular shaped backboards provide more bank shot opportunities, they are generally more expensive than the streamlined fan-shaped board.

Huffy 8839S "The Converter" for Basketball Systems Review

Huffy 8839S The Converter for Basketball Systems

Santa brought a backboard, but no bracket to attach it. We wanted one that was adjustable for our small kids and found this. It can be raised and lowered with some degree of ease using a broomstick handle. The instructions are detailed and not too hard to follow.
Assembly is not easy. I would not recommend this product if you don't know how to assemble nuts and bolts or have a hard time following diagrams and such. Ultimately it takes two adults to finish the assembly as one has to lift the backboard and bracket to the base while the other attaches it to the base. Better yet, just find a handyman and pay him to install it. Note that if you intend to attach it to your roof, you will need to buy about 6 bolts, washers and nuts as they are not included.
I would give the bracket 5 stars (not judging on the assembly though, it is moderately hard), but the bracket tends to wobble a little bit when hit hard on the side. This seems to be because of the bracket design and the fact that it is fully adjustable.
For my small kids, it's fine. They won't be doing any slam dunks for a long time. But I would not want anyone trying to hang on the rim. For grown ups, get a fixed bracket that won't budge and will withstand a slam dunk or two.

Spalding 8406S Universal Mounting Bracket Review

Spalding 8406S Universal Mounting Bracket

I bought this mounting bracket to install my Huffy backboard. The backboard company, Huffy, recommended the installation bracket. No big shock since they are both the same company (which I found out later). Anyhow, right away I could tell this wasn't going to be easy or fun. The holes in the mounting bracket were drilled wrong so I had to re-drill new holes, through metal (yay), just to put the bracket together. But then I discover, after drilling the holes, that the assembly requires 14 of a particular nut/bolt/washer set, and the package only comes with twelve. When you read the parts manifest it even says it comes with 12. But when you put it together, it instructs you to use 14, and shows 14 in the diagrams. Nice.
Okay, moving on. When you get to page 13 of the instruction manual and you are realizing that they've (The Chinese) screwed you out of the essential tools and parts which render this mounting bracket obsolete, you discover a little note on the bottom of the page which states: The hardware required to mount this bracket to the wall is NOT included. What? What did I buy then? Where's the hardware set for the hardware? How is this universal?! You mean to tell me that you can assemble the whole thing (if you're a freaking mechanical engineer, that is), only to discover that you have to prop the thing against the wall because you can't hang it on the wall of the garage?! And then, the whole time you're trying not to lose your mind, you have your kids there saying over and over again in some nightmare of a litany, "Dad, when will it be ready? Dad, when will it be ready?"
So what do you do? You call customer service and guess what? An answering machine. Always an answering machine. They NEVER answer the phone. Evidently they screen their calls. So by the time you've called them three times, and they can tell you're a bit peeved, forget about getting a call back. Never gonna happen, chap.
My advice. Go to the Salvation Army, buy some rusty old rim, and screw that hoop directly to the wall. That way, at least, the only screwing that will have been done is by you, and not to you.

Lifetime 1044 Quick Adjust Conversion Kit -- Pole Not Included Review

Lifetime 1044 Quick Adjust Conversion Kit -- Pole Not Included
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered a Lifetime 79910 Competition Series Basketball Backboard and Rim Combo with 50 Inch Shatter Guard Backboard along with a LIFETIME PRODUCTS #1044 ADJ Pole Conversion Kit to mount over my garage. The widest part of my driveway is in front of the garage and I really didn't want a permanent pole or a weighted base to have to mow around so a wall mount was the perfect solution for me. The mount and backboard was easy enough to put together and was much more sturdy than I thought it would be. After reading another online review I went ahead and added a couple of additional washers to the pivot bolts (see my pictures I added above) so that the backboard wouldn't swing from side-to-side too much. The installation instructions advised not to mount the backboard to a brick wall such that the weight of the backboard rested solely on the bricks because they might not be able to handle the weight and stress of a basketball backboard so I drilled the four holes using a foot-long 3/8" masonry drill bit all the way through the brick wall to the inside of my garage and used 12" threaded rods, washers and nuts to sandwich the wall. It is not coming down. I hung on the rim a few times to make sure. I am really pleased with the results and would buy this combo again.

I purchased this pole with the 79307 backboard, since Amazon shows them frequently purchased together. Problem is, the backboard hardware is not meant to fit this pole. I had to modify a couple of pieces to make it fit. But, looks nice and works nicely when done. Regarding the pole itself, this is a lot of work. When you are "bouncing" the pole pieces together, be sure to do it on a solid foundation, like a board over concrete or over a gravel driveway. Don't do it on a board on the grass or you will pound away all day and not get them together (yes, I did this for awhile...). Once it is together and filled with concrete, I was able to put it in the hole alone, but barely. Two people are definitely recommended. Looks great now, but with one major problem: it only adjusts to 9'9" high. I have no idea what happened to the missing 3" because I followed the directions to a T, but there you have it. Good luck, and make sure you get a backboard that is meant to fit this thing! Amazon, you shouldn't recommend that buyers buy two parts that aren't meant to go together!
